The first week of class was very intimidating. I came in as a freshman placed into French 320 and was a bit scared when she came in speaking french a mile a minute the first day. Withing a week half of the class had moved to a different section with another teacher, but I was very glad that I didnt. While she was a bit intimidating, she taught the class incredibly well. My French improved drastically throughout this course. She is a stickler for precise definitions, and the tests have about 10 words that need to be defined each time. Assignments include 1-2 page compositions and definitions of words from the text defined from "Le Petit Robert". She's a fair grader, and by fair I dont mean generous. She will give you the grade that you deserve. However, she's very understanding and is willing to meet to help you during her office hours. If you have a choice, pick Mme. Beane for Comp and con, you'll thank yourself.

She is the most awesome teacher in Truman. Russian is the first real attempt for me at a second language, and I am acutally learning it because of her. She teaches the class with a passion, and is insane (in a good way). It is a bit intimidating, because the class goes fast. If you are determined, you will do good. She doesn't give any surprises on the tests, you get points on the homework if you attempt it, and there are no surprise quizes or tests with her. To get a good grade, you have to dedicate yourself to the language, though.

Faith Beane will kick your French's butt. She asks a lot of her students, and liberally distributes constructive criticism (which can be sometimes hard to swallow). She speaks French very very fast; a very modern and Parisian French that is at first difficult to follow. However, you quickly pick it up, and your listening skills improve greatly. Her class is hard, don't take it unless you are willing to work hard, and honestly want to improve your speaking, listening, and understanding of culture.

Mde Beane is a good professor overall. However, it seems to me that she often forgets that students have other classes to take. Sometimes there is ridiculous amounts of homework. She speaks french very well..the best out of any French profs I've had before. The class is hard, but pretty good. If you are serious about French, take her class. If not, dont!

Mdme Beane was hands down the best professor I've had at Truman so far. Her class was not easy, but she made French fun and she was always there to give extra help. Her class was conducted almost exclusively in French which was kind of difficult at the beginning. As time goes on you get used to it, and it really does help you to learn the language. There is a lot of homework. Some of it seems like busy work, but most of it does show up on the tests and the worksheets you get are a good place to study from. The tests are fairly easy, but the class in general was pretty much review for me because I had already learned most of the stuff before. Faith Beane is definately a teacher I would recommend taking!

Faith Beane is an excellent French instructor. To this day (three years later) she is the best instructor I have had (in any subject) here at Truman. The class is hard, but you will learn more French in one semester than you ever thought possible. My skill in both spoken and written French increased dramatically, and I have so much more confidence thanks to her encouragement. She's amazingly talented at languages, and she pays attention to little things that need practicing, like pronunciation and phrasing of words. We did fun stuff in class too like watch popular French movies and talk about what's happening in the world and what French people think about it. I will confess that the class is a little scary at first, but don't let that intimidate you. Give it a week or two and you'll catch on to all the French. Its the best way to learn another language. You'll be impressed with yourself when you find that you understand what's going on. Stick with this class. It's difficult, but Faith will help you out if you talk with her (she speaks English in her office, just not in class). You will definately get your money's worth out of it, and speak much better French too.

Though this class is tough, you'll come away knowing your stuff. Madame Beane is an amazing teacher who really gets excited about what she is teaching. She starts talking in french the first day and keeps it up for the rest of the semester. Though the immersion takes some getting used to, it really helps to learn the language. She does give alot of homework which is a pain, but she isn't an anal grader (she won't take off for repeated mistakes, ect.) Overall, if you want to learn french, definately take this class. I think you'll be more than prepared for Intermediate French I.
